For years, kitchens have been designed to create a seamless workflow for the family cook. The sink, stove, and refrigerators were placed at opposite points within the kitchen forming a triangle. This allowed the cook, with a simple step and turn, to move effortlessly from the refrigerator and sink, to the stove without thought. This design was perfect when there was a single cook within the family. Times have changed; kitchens now have to be designed to allow for several individuals to work without bumping into each other. By creating a kitchen based on zones, everyone can be given a task and have their own place within the kitchen to do it.
