Bathroom Remodel Cost

Bathroom Remodel Cost

The average bathroom in the United States is 35 square feet. While this isn’t a lot of space, there is a lot crammed in this tiny room that is used throughout the day. If you’re considering a bathroom remodel, here are some costs to be aware of:

The Bathtub

Alcove: This is a standard bathtub seen in most bathrooms. A shower head will hang from above, and you’ll stand in the tub. This type ranges anywhere from $175 to $400. To replace the shower head, add in another $20 to $100.

Corner: For trickier bathrooms, a corner tub fits perfectly in the corner. This type can cost anywhere from $700 to as much as $3,000.

Drop-in: A drop-in tub is also known as a soaking tub. This type of tub can vary anywhere from $250 to $450.

Freestanding: This type will generally stand in the center of a room. Designed for larger bathrooms, this can run anywhere from $1,000 to $4,500.

Whirlpool: The highest-end that you can purchase, a whirlpool can retail for $500 to $3,000.

The Shower

Stand Alone: For those that will have a bathtub and a shower, a stand alone shower can range from $400 to as much as $1,500.

Bathroom Vanity

Single Sink: A single sink vanity can run anywhere from $500 to $1,500 depending upon a finish. A vanity made from a solid wood oak would cost more than one made from a lower-end wood.

Double Sink: For those that have room for a two sink vanity, the price can range from $750 to $2,000. Again, like the single sink, it will greatly depend on the quality.

Counter Tops: If you require cabinets and a counter top instead of a vanity, the price of the counter top can widely vary depending upon the quality of material. A laminate counter top can cost $5 per square foot, while a granite counter top can range from $25 to $35 per square foot. Sinks that sit in the counter top can vary from $200 to $1,000.

Other Essentials

Lights: Lights that sit above the bathroom mirror can cost $90 to $300, while ceiling lights can range anywhere from $20 to as much as $200. If the vent has to be replaced up top as well, factor in another $200 to $400 for the fan.

Faucet: If the faucet has to be replaced on the bathroom sink, a faucet can cost anywhere from $65 to $300.

Hardware: Additional smaller hardware pieces like the towel bar, toilet paper holder and others can cost $25 to $200 overall.

As you can see, things can add up fairly quickly. Don’t forget to factor in the professional costs, the destruction and even the clean up efforts such as renting a dumpster. In the end, most experts will say your budget can start in the $15,000’s and go as high as $40,000.
